About the event
Black History Month (February) and Women's History Month (March) will be celebrated at Coffee at The Point with art by High School students. This show was conceived by four Seniors from Denver's High School of Science and Technology (DSST). They call themselves POC POV (People of Color Point of View). POC POV was created to give students of color at DSST a space to amplify their voices. Points of Intersection is one of the final and biggest projects POC POV will pursue as they are coming to the end of their high school journey. These four young women are: Nephaterie Smith, Iftu Abdi, Sollianna Kineferigb and Kristen Narona. Other students have been invited to participate.
In honor of Black History and Women's History, these students have created works of art celebrating a space for Black and Brown youth to share the culmination of their stories through this work. The project has blossomed into a platform for art by these students from Science and Technology to amplify their voices. The beauty of being black and female is represented in the strength of each artist and the complexity of their lives as seen through their work.
This show ... Points of Intersection... highlights that artists can come from a multitude of cultures and backgrounds and relate in a universal voice of what it means to be human. They have found a way to weave Science and Technology into creative and innovative pieces of visual art.
You are invited to join us on Saturday, February 9th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Coffee at The Point to meet these young artists and hear more from their creative spirits.
